History
Salzgitter Maschinenbau AG was started during the year 1919. The company was initially founded by an engineer Anton Raky. Raky was a pioneer in modern drilling and oil drilling technology. The initial name of the company was Anton Raky, Tiefbohrungen in Salzgitter.
In the year 1937, the cornerstone for SMAG was laid when the manufacturing facility was acquired by the Salzgitter Group for constructing drilling machines. In 1986, the company obtained the grab product division from Peiner AG. Soon after, Peiner was developed into an international brand name in the succeeding years. At present, SMAG is the market leader in the world, using grabs for waste disposal, worldwide cargo handling applications and agriculture.
