Lift Truck Components in More Detail
There are numerous parts which make up a forklift. The forklifts key parts include the truck frame, the engine parts, the overhead guard, the tilt cylinders and the wheels. What's more, a forklift has a range of attachments. All the parts making up a lift truck are all important as they work together to make the functions of the machine possible. The following paragraphs describe several of the lift truck components in detail.
The Overhead Guard - this guard forms the forklift truck's metal roof. It sits above the cab area and protects the machine operator while she or he is sitting and driving. The overhead guard makes sure that nothing falling from above onto the truck will damage the controls in the cab or harm the driver. The overhead guard is vital to the frame assembly on some units.
The Mast - the mast is a vertical assembly made of interlocking rails and mounted either to the front axle or the forklift frame. The mast provides lateral stability and enables the forks to move upwards and downwards. The interlocking rails could either have bushings or bushings as guides. There are a couple of ways the mast may be operated: chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor or hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders.
Lift Truck Carriage - The carriage is the part that the forks and different other kinds of attachments are mounted to. The carriage is in fact directly attached to the hydraulic cylinder and is connected by chains. To be able to allow the forks to be raised and lowered, the carriage can have either bushings or rollers to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.
Load Back Rest - a back rest is a metal rack which keeps a load from falling backwards while the carriage is lifted to its full height. The back rest is either welded or bolted on to the carriage.
Forklift Attachments - There are many kinds of attachments that could be fixed directly to the lift truck's carriage. Forks are the most common kind of attachment. In addition, there are L-shaped members, rotators, rollers, pole handlers, roll clamps and and all that. These various attachments are very handy for moving different types of loads.
