OSHA, which is responsible for monitoring workplace safety, reports on the frequency of forklift mishaps. On average, every three days someone is killed in a forklift accident within the United States. Around 95,000 injuries occur in forklift related accidents on an annual basis. The vast majority of these accidents could have been avoided if correct safety measures had been followed. There are also internet sites dedicated to reporting stories of forklift mishaps.

When there are mishaps related to forklifts, both the business and the individual will suffer. There are numerous reasons why employers must take steps to reduce the risk. Amongst the biggest reasons is to prevent risk of lawsuits if someone is hurt. Second, mishaps cut down on working time. Thirdly, merchandise and property can be damaged during accidents. Nearly all accidents are attributed to workers who are not trained. Employers are responsible for making certain that all employees who are using the forklift are properly trained in safety and risks. Never let anybody on a forklift who isn't correctly trained to utilize the forklift. Your business must develop and post in a visible location all forklift safety procedures.

Staff should have a positive attitude when they go through training, instead of doing it just because they are required to. You as the employer must help staff understand the significance of correct training. Let them understand that they could injure or kill not only themselves, but other individuals, if they make mistakes. It is up to you to make certain that all your staff go through training seriously.
